American Standard .22 Caliber Revolver - 1
Manhattan Firearms Manufacturing Company closed its doors in 1868 and
basically was reincarnated as the American Standard Tool Company that was
incorporated on November 23, 1868. American Standard Tool, also referred to
as AST, continued production of what realistically was the Manhattan Second
Model .22 caliber revolver.
The American Standard differed from the Manhattan Second Model in the
following ways. The barrel signing became AMERICAN STANDARD TOOL
Co. NEWARK N.J.; the 1859 patent date was no longer stamped on the
bottom flat of the barrel; and the serial numbers were no longer stamped on
the rear face of the barrel. Instead, the serial numbers were prominently
stamped on the bottom flat near the muzzle.
