American Standard .22 Caliber Revolver - 2
Hand engraving of the barrels, though continuing, may not have been as
widespread in order to cut production costs. An estimated 40,000 of the
American Standard Tool Company .22 caliber revolvers were produced up until
the company was dissolved in early 1873. Curiously, no serial numbers smaller
than # 429 have been seen (Nutter, 1959). This may have been attributed to
the production of a few hundred unmarked revolvers, products of either
Manhattan or American Standard Tool, just prior to the expiration of Rollin
White's patent on April 3, 1869.
